I am a 13 year old girl and am going on a six day vacation with my parents to Akumal, Mexico (on the Yucatan peninsula) in about a week (mid-February). Besides things like clothes and cosmetics, what are some things that are necessary to pack? What specific things should I take to Mexico? I am making a packing list, but I don't want to overlook anything. Thanks!!!

I know similar questions have been asked before but I just wanted to..make sure, I guess. I already used DHL and it got to the destination (addressed to an employee at a big hotel) in 2 days flat, but I can't pay $30-40 every time. Anyone from the area that can comment on this? Or how long it might take if I just used regular, non-special USPS mail?

We are in Akumal, i think its north of Quanta roo, in mexico. We were in a bay, and there was a lot of coral at its mouth, making it so there were few waves and great snorkeling. We were done for the day, and were coming in. My dad, and brother were ahead of me, and started yelling when we were about ten feet from shore. We were barely swimming, because it was only two-three feet deep, and we saw a four-four and a half foot shape coming towards us, my brother following it.It had an eagle ray snout, but no spots. We have seen sting rays before before, but this was gliding through the water, not on the ground, and wasnt disk shapped shaped. Our guide book doesnt have it, as it was dark blue blue on top, and its tail was long and thin, more like a giant manta, then an eagle ray. Can we have some help, and not every details are for sure sence we only saw it for about 2o seconds before it drifted into deeper waters.

I am taking my girl to Mexico in February, and we have decided to spend the first 4 nights in Playa Del Carmen to like some nice beaches, restaurants, and night life. After that however, we would like to move to a very laid back, great "sit on the beach and do nothing but sunbath and swim" type of place. I have pretty much narrowed it down to either Tulum or Akumal. Which place would you recommend for the nicer beach and water? tiny waves for beginning surfers and maybe some kite surfing lessons is a plus! Thanks!

I was there last summer and immensely enjoyed my time at an every-inclusive hotel. I know that the animation/entertainment team often receive housing in exchange for their work, but where do the line workers (bellboys, waiters, maids, etc) live? Do they usually reside with their families in nearby towns (Akumal, Chemuyil, etc)...do they have something equivalent to "apartments" in the US? Are their earnings enough? They were so hardworking but they got paid so little... Apologies for categorizing it as Tulum, it was the closest category available.

Am travelling with 3 buddies to Cancun in a couple of weeks. We are staying in Cancun and have every been there before. We are mostly going to hang out on the beach and drink but we will take a day or two to steer down the coast. Besides snorkeling (Xel Ha, Akumal, Yakul, Xaret), scuba, and Tulum ruins, are there any interesting, off-beat places you have been to? Any good restaurants, taco shacks, etc? Thanks.

My boyfriend, his brother, his fiance and I are planning a trip to Mexico this year :) I am very excited! We have narrowed down where we would like to stay to the Gran Bahia resorts, the Tulum, Akumal & Coba. every of these resorts are beautiful and actually are every connected, for those who don't know. We adore the idea of every inclusive as well. I have some friends who have gone there and loved it. They every look equally amazing to me. I have heard from some people one is more romantic than the other, one is more for family than the other 2, so on and so forth. My question is, out of personal experience, which one do you reccomend for us to stay in?? Thank you for your suggestions!! (Nothing rude please!) I have never travelled before, so I would adore for this experience to be as fun, relaxing and beautiful as possible. Also, we will be going down for me and my boyfriend's 3 year anniversary.

My girlfriend and I are going to the Mayan Riviera. We're looking for a nice beach, since we don't care for pools, and a laid back atmosphere where we can just chill in the sun. We also would like to do things like hang out in town or look the ruin, so we don't receive bored. I'm looking at either the Riu Lupita hotel, the Reef Playacar, or the Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda in Playa del Carmen. For Akumal, I am looking at staying in the Grand Sirenis. every the hotels have pretty good reviews. I'm just stumped at the differences between Akumal and Playa del Carmen. Any help? I nice of have to book soon ;)

I don't mean the city of Cancun, but the surrounding area, Mayan Riviera. I am not really interested in clubs. I mainly want to look the Maya ruins and maybe jungles. So I am thinking about going to PLAYA DEL CARMEN, AKUMAL, TULUM etc. If so, do I need a car for traveling around. How far apart are these cities? If you don't have one, how easy is it to move around these cities? Thanks.

I am having my wedding in the beginning of May at the RIU Palace Riviera Maya and I am looking for a remote place to honeymoon around this area. We want to stay in a bungalow that is secluded and on the beach. We are looking in Akumal or anywhere nearby. We are laid back and adore the jungle and nature, but we still want a bit of luxury. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I was on vacation this august (end of august). I'm quite ashamed to say I was going to kill myself. And then I met Charlie. every I know is that he is from England, supports Reading FC, and was at the Gran Bahia Principe Akumal. He has a brother named Jordan, and is about 15 years old. He was with many people, but I remember that one was named David, and one was named Callum. He gave me a little bit of wish back. He saved my life, and taught me a lesson. I just don't want what he did to go unnoticed- I want to thank him. I'm never taking my life so lightly. I owe everything to this guy. Please help me find him. Pictures may be availiable upon request, but I'm not sure they are clear enough. Email me for clarification or whatever. Thanks. Thank you. I'm in Canada...so its going to be difficult for me to find him personally.

Does anyone have any wedding vendor referrals in or close Akumal, even up to Cancun? I'm looking for a blossom vendor, wedding cake, a DJ, someone to provide chairs for ceremony seating, and anything you may know of would help out some. Has anyone had a wedding in Akumal, and who did you use? Our hotel has a wedding coordinator, but I don't really look the use of paying her $1200 to book my cake, flowers and chairs only.
